Spa hotel saves millions each year with Labkyl's energy solution

20 Oct 2021

In 2020, Labkyl assessed the energy usage for the Japanese spa and conference hotel Yasuragi at Hasseludden by installing a climate-neutral hybrid solution in the form of a DLE heat pump and outdoor air cooler. Now, one year later, we can see the results.

Yasuragi is a energy-intensive facility with a building over 20,000 square meters, including a hotel, restaurants, Japanese baths, and hot springs. They were in need of a new powerful and environmentally friendly energy source. Labkyl solved the problem, both environmentally and economically, by installing a climate-neutral DLE heat pump with a capacity of 1000 kW and outdoor air coolers equivalent to 150 air-to-air heat pumps.

The results are fantastic both economically and environmentally!

One year later, we can see that the oil consumption has decreased by 95%. The energy cost is reduced by approximately 3,300,000 SEK per year. The environmental gain is a reduction of 807,000 kilograms of CO2 equivalents! That is equivalent to 2100 Passat VW GTE Hybrid cars driving a total of 2,500,000 miles. Meanwhile, electricity consumption has not increased.

In principle, Yasuragi can recoup the entire environmental and energy investment in just a few years. These are fantastic figures but by no means unique. Labkyl has achieved similar results before, including after a similar energy and environmental project for the 'green' conference facility Sånga Säby.

"This is the most profitable investment we have made. We significantly lower energy costs and almost completely eliminate our environmental impact," says Monika Hilm, CEO of Yasuragi.

Yasuragi is committed to active sustainability. Today, the facility is mostly powered by renewable energy sources such as geothermal energy, wind power, solar energy, and hydropower. Yasuragi is operated by Nordic Hotels & Resorts AB/AS, which is part of Petter Stordalen's Strawberry Hospitality Group.
