Our sustainability work

Knowledge for transition – for
a better climate

Refrigeration technology is one of the keys to the green transition. The synthetic refrigerants, found in both chillers and heat pumps, are being phased out and natural refrigerants are gaining ground. The benefits for both customers and the climate are clear. Less climate impact, less environmental impact and increased opportunities for heat recovery and thus improved energy efficiency. The policy in Nordic Climate Group is clear, offer alternatives with natural refrigerants. It aligns with our climate goals, which are approved by SBTi, and with the EU’s ambitions within the Fit for 55 framework.

Sustainability – more than just technology

Nordic Climate Group’s goal with sustainability work is to contribute through products, services and business models to implementing the most sustainable solutions with minimal climate impact and maximum energy efficiency at our companies’ customers. Our sustainability work therefore permeates the entire business and the key words for success are knowledge, inspiration and participation. This includes continuous training of our employees. Our goal is to be an obvious role model for sustainable climate solutions. We can only achieve that by thinking sustainably at every stage and in all work.

Cooling and heating are two sides of the same technology. When the heat generated by a chiller is recovered, energy that would otherwise be needed to create heat is saved. Simply put, a smartly designed cooling system creates heat at no extra cost. We advocate natural refrigerants that reduce climate impact and maximise energy efficiency. Feel free to take a closer look at our customer cases. A new system with natural refrigerants often means an energy saving of 20–50%, with full heat recovery up to 75%. The sooner the conversion from refrigerants with F-gases to natural refrigerants takes place, the greater the energy saving. Economically, it is not sustainable to install or keep cooling equipment with F-gases as they require refrigerants that are becoming increasingly expensive.

In technical solutions together with natural refrigerants, both the climate and the economy are winners. Improved sustainability metrics are therefore not just about numbers in the sustainability report; it develops the view on technical possibilities, the customer’s financial results, and our shared climate.
